 Eating Right In The South

 As you all know we are having food shortages,and a lot of cities are having food riots, and our soldiers aren’t getting much either. They are getting salted fat with mold, and other disgusting things on it.. They are also getting hard crackers with worms crawling through them. So I'm going to put some recipes of what our soldiers are eating and some special occasion food.


Salted meats:

2 cups any meat

Salt

water

Put the meat in the water and cook until done.

Put on a plate and salt and enjoy!


Confederate egg-nog:

5 eggs

6 teaspoon sugar

6 egg whites

Beat egg yokes with sugar until light colored. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. And serve


Confederate chowder

1 clove garlic sliced

2 onions

2 stalks celery

2 carrots

4 potatoes

1 gallon of milk

Cut all vegetables, melt 1 stick of butter, cook while preparing sauce, add 1 ½ cup flour, with enough water to make thick gravy, add 2 more cups water, cook over medium heat until thickens then stir 1 gallon milk in, keep on heat for an hour serves 6.


Johnny cakes

2 cups cornmeal

2/3 cups milk

2 tablespoons cooking oil

2 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

Mix all ingredients until stiff and form 8 biscuit size balls, bake on 350, or spoon batter into dutch oven, let cool on a plate



Black Eyed Peas

2 cups black eyed peas

4 cups water

3 teaspoon salt

Boil the black eyed peas in a pot, for 25 minutes, take them out put them on plate and salt
